1909 Indian Gold Eagle

The 1909 Indian Gold Eagle date is one of the scarcest Philadelphia Mint issues and it ranks behind only the rare and very expensive 1933, 1907 Wire Edge and 1907 Rolled Edge varieties.
The 1909 Indian Gold Eagle is usually seen with a very sharp strike, as are most Philadelphia issues from this era.
The surfaces are often heavily bagmarked. It appears that the majority of 1909 Eagles that were not melted went into circulation and were roughly handled. It is extremely hard to find a piece which is clean and choice.
1909 Gold Eagle: Luster, Color, and Eye Appeal Analysis
The luster is usually very good with a rich satiny texture most often seen. The coloris a vibrant yellow-gold but some show modest hints of green-gold.
The level of eye appeal for the 1909 tends to be lower than for the other Philadelphia issues of this era. Many have a “scuffy” appearance which tends to dull the remaining luster. An attractive, high end coin represents an excellent purchase for the savvy collector and many specialists feel that this issue is undervalued at current levels.
