1913 Half Eagle: Availability, Grades, and Proofs
The 1913 Indian Head Half Eagle shows good eye appeal. The average example is well struck, has decent luster and color and suffers only from some marks on the surfaces. This date has become more available in recent years due to a number of decent sized hoards coming onto the market. It is common in grades up to and including MS63. It is scarce in MS64 and rare in MS65.
There were 99 Proofs struck in 1913, of which an estimated thirty to forty are still known. These are found with the same color and finish as on the 1912 Proofs. Most are seen in the PR64 to PR65 range with a few known in grades as high as PR66 to PR67.
