1915-S Half Eagle: Color and Scarcity in Higher Grades
Coloration on this issue is most often a medium to deep orange-gold. Some of the grainy examples have a more greenish-gold hue. Many 1915-S Indian Head Half Eagles have been cleaned at one time and pieces with nice original color are very scarce.
The 1915-S Indian Head Half Eagle has slightly below average eye appeal. The typical piece shows die deterioration at the border and has a weak mintmark as a result. Many are very heavily abraded as well. Examples with good eye appeal are very rare.
This date is usually seen in AU grades and lower end Uncirculated examples are about the best that are generally offered for sale. The 1915-S Indian Head Half Eagle is extremely scarce in properly graded MS63 and it is very rare in MS64.
